PET WELLNESS EXAMS

As caring owners, you want the very best for your pet. That’s why we encourage you to schedule annual wellness examinations. By seeking to prevent problems before they arise, you are ensuring your pet extended health and happiness.

VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC LABS

At North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital, we are fully committed to your pet’s health and happiness. That’s why we recommend bringing them in for regular blood screening and fecal testing. By doing so, we will be able to treat issues before they arise. We offer a full spectrum of in-house and reference lab testing through IDEXX Laboratories.

SOFT TISSUE SURGERY

We are proud to offer in-house surgical care for soft tissue procedures. We offer spay and neuter services, mass removals, and more. Please reach out if you have questions regarding your pets surgical needs.

ILLNESS CARE

We understand that dealing with a sick pet can be stressful. We strive to provide timely, thorough examination, and diagnostics to get to the root of the problem. We offer many treatment options in-hospital, and through our pharmaceutical options that we carry onsite and can send home the same day. If your pet needs more advanced or specialty care, we partner with local referral hospitals to get them where they need to be.

DENTAL CARE

Routine dental care is as essential to our pets' health as it is to our own. We offer dental cleaning services along with dental radiographs and extractions if needed. Surgical extractions can also be performed. Through dental care, we can ensure your pet's mouth stays healthy and pain free.

RADIOLOGY

Our in-house digital radiology system allows us to provide rapid results for your pet's imaging needs. This allows us to get more done during your visit and minimize stress as much as possible.

ERIN BARKER

Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Erin Barker grew up in North Yarmouth, and is very excited to be opening a practice in her hometown! Dr. Barker attended the University of Maine for her undergraduate degree and went on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2011. She has over 10 years of experience in general practice and enjoys providing medical, surgical, and dental care to dogs and cats. When she is not at work, she can be found spending time with her two kids and husband, playing beach volleyball, rooting for New England sports teams, and enjoying the Maine outdoors!

Hospital Policies

Communication: All of our reminders are sent via email and we also communicate via text. If you prefer to be contacted in another way, please let our staff know. We do not sell or give your information to any outside entities.

Emergency Policy: North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital is a general practice veterinary facility. We do not provide overnight patient monitoring. Should you wish or if your pet requires after hours monitoring, we will help make arrangements to have your pet transferred to Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care or Maine Veterinary Medical Center.

Patient Arrival Policy: For the comfort and safety of all patients, all dogs must be on a leash and properly controlled while in the parking area, waiting area and exam rooms. Retractable leashes must be kept at a regular leash distance. All other pets must be presented in an appropriate carrier or on a leash. If you need help carrying your pet into the hospital, please let a team member know.

Appointment Cancelation/No-Show Policy: We understand that plans can unexpectedly change, but we ask that you provide us with a call/text (207-489-9488)/email (northyarmouthvet@gmail.com) before the appointment, if you are going to be late or you are unable to make your appointment. North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital operates on an appointment-based system, we are not a work-in clinic or emergency hospital. Missed appointments take time from another patient who could have filled it. In saying that, after two “no-shows” for your scheduled appointment or surgery, we will require an exam fee deposit prior to booking your next appointment. That deposit will go towards your appointment, but if you miss the appointment, it’s a non-refundable deposit that will support our hospital fund.

Online Pharmacy/Prescription Writing Policy: All doctors, including veterinarians, cannot legally prescribe or dispense a prescription product without being familiar with their patients first. For veterinarians, it’s called establishing the Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). The valid VCPR applies to all veterinarians and to all species of animals. We do not work directly with any online pharmacies (other than our own) or approve prescriptions online/over the phone. We have an online pharmacy for desired products that we do not carry in hospital. If you choose another online pharmacy instead, we will be happy to write a physical prescription for you to send. We do not email or airmail those written prescriptions to owners or outside pharmacies, they must be picked up at our hospital. The reason for this is we can’t guarantee the products coming from online pharmacies (other than our own) and for that reason, we recommend using our online pharmacy if we don’t carry the desired product in hospital. Please allow 24 hours notice when requesting a written prescription.

Payment Policy: Payment is due in full at the time the services are rendered. Unfortunately, we are not able to extend credit or allow payment plans to our clients. Acceptable payment methods include cash, debit/credit cards and checks; if a check is returned, there will be a $20 fee added to the balance. We do not currently accept Care Credit.

Updated: May 2024

These policies will be revisited and updated as needed.
We are so grateful for the support you all have given to North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital!
